“I’m thrilled to share that my latest film, The Weekend, has been chosen as an Official Selection for the 2024 Tribeca Festival (@tribeca), happening from June 5–16, 2024, in NYC,” director Daniel Oriahi wrote on Instagram, clearly thrilled with the film’s success.
“Misfit, my debut feature picture, was a very intimate psychological horror made on a shoestring. I presented it in Lagos in 2014 with the hopes of making a splash, and that’s how I got to know @uchelouisokocha and @baba_t23 from Trino Studios. After we had success with Sylvia in 2018, I wanted to investigate other horror subgenres, taking cues from beloved films such as Hereditary, The Shining, and Rosemary’s Baby.
“Uche gave me a script in 2022 called The Weekend, and it was exactly what I wanted to do artistically. It seems complete that Tribeca included it in the Midnight section. I started producing films about twenty years ago as a way to express myself and heal, and it still inspires me to keep going. I would want to thank Trino Studios and all of my partners for their unshakable faith in me.
