Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku has urged Serie A to take decisive action after he was subjected to racist chanting from a section of Juventus fans in Tuesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final first-leg tie.
Lukaku was subbed on in the 69th minute in Turin and scored a stoppage-time penalty to cancel out Juventus winger, Juan Cuadrado’s opener just a few minutes earlier.
Before Lukaku’s late goal, he was the subject of vile chants from a section of Juventus supporters throughout his cameo appearance, with video footage from the stands showing some so-called home crowd fans making monkey noises.
After scoring his penalty, the Chelsea loanee put a finger to his lips to silence the crowd and was shockingly shown a second yellow card for ‘excessive celebrating’.
This is not the first time Lukaku has experienced monkey chants, the Belgium international experienced monkey chants in 2019 when Inter Milan played Cagliari.
However, in a post via his Instagram account on Wednesday, Lukaku wrote: “History repeats itself. “Been through it in 2019… and 2023 again.
“I hope the league really takes action for real this time because this beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone. Thank you for the supportive messages. F*ck racism.”
Meanwhile, the Serie A has since released a statement after the match condemning racism, though it did not mention Lukaku.
