Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made the amusing comment that he continues to coach due of his large salary, even though his team has won everything.
After winning the triple crown with City last year and adding it to his long list of achievements with other teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola’s attention is now on defeating Real Madrid in Tuesday’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg.
Guardiola joked during a press conference, “I enjoy this profession,” in response to a question about his motivation. The monetary benefits are undoubtedly advantageous.”
“I like playing away at Luton Town as well as here. I’ll think about giving up when I stop feeling this way,” Guardiola said.
Guardiola does not expect a repeat of City’s convincing 5-1 aggregate triumph against Madrid in the Champions League semifinals last year.
“That was the previous season. We were ousted here in the closing seconds two seasons ago. Although it would appear to be a legendary match between our teams, I don’t think so,” he said.
“Although the managers remain the same, both teams have undergone changes in personnel, so I expect it to be an entirely different game,” said Guardiola.
