The adoption of semi-offside technology has been approved by all Premier League clubs, according to a statement released by the league after its shareholders’ meeting on Thursday. The upcoming season will see the introduction of this technology prior to one of the international breaks.
“At a Premier League Shareholders’ meeting today, clubs unanimously agreed to the introduction of Semi-Automated Offside Technology,” the statement continued.
The technology is expected to be ready to be implemented after one of the autumn international breaks, and the new system will be utilized for the first time in the Premier League the following season.
In order to give fans a better in-stadium and broadcast experience, the technology will produce high-quality broadcast graphics and enable the virtual offside line to be placed more quickly and consistently based on optical player tracking.”
