According to John Enoh, the Minister of Sports, the Super Eagles’ new head coach will be revealed in two weeks.
Jose Peseiro’s contract expired at the end of February, leaving the position unfilled.
Three coaches are allegedly on the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) technical committee’s short list for the position of head coach.
The new coach is anticipated to be selected following the continuation of consultations over the course of the next few weeks.
The minister told Channel Sports, “What I can guarantee is that the senior national team will have a new coach within the next one week or at most two weeks.”
Enoh added that despite the Super Eagles’ dismal start, the NFF has taken its time and done a thorough work to ensure their qualification for the World Cup.
Recall that in December of last year, the Super Eagles drew their opening two World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“We had a shaky start to the World Cup campaign, so there’s a lot of ground to cover,” Enoh continued. “The 2020 campaign has begun.”
“We cannot afford to miss the upcoming World Cup since we were not selected for the previous one.
“The NFF is making every effort not to make the same mistake that will result in the same disappointment because they are aware of the losses Nigeria suffered by not attending the last World Cup.”
