Following the death of his first wife and 13-month-old daughter in an automobile accident, US President Joe Biden has revealed that he considered suicide.
During an appearance on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, Biden revealed this to the journalist.
On December 18, 1972, an automobile accident in Delaware claimed the lives of the president’s first wife, Nelia, and their one-year-old daughter, Naomi.
Recounting his past suffering, Biden said to Stern, “You don’t have to be crazy to commit suicide if you’ve reached the summit of the mountain and you believe you’ll never get back down.”
“I briefly considered going to Delaware Memorial Bridge and jumping off it, but I had two kids.”
The President also stated that following the loss of his wife, he would pull out a bottle of scotch with the intention of getting wasted, but he was never able to pull it off.
“I don’t drink; that’s not a good quality. I simply didn’t drink. I used to sit there and tell myself that I was just going to pull out a bottle of scotch.
He remarked, “We always had alcohol in the house, and I was just going to drink it and get wasted, and I can never bring myself to do that.”
Biden has frequently discussed his reasons for not drinking, saying, at one point, that “there are enough drunks” in his family.
The US President additionally declared that he would be open to a debate with Republican opponent Donald Trump, stating, “I am, somewhere, I don’t know when, but I am happy to debate him.”
