Israel carried out an airstrike in the Beqaa region of Lebanon, killing two members of a Lebanese group who fired rockets across the southern border towards Israel.
The Israeli military claimed that Mosab Khalaf was “struck and eliminated in the area of Meidoun in Lebanon” by its air force.
According to the Israeli military, one of the Jama’a Islamiya group’s members had attacked Israel.
Two of Jama’a Islamiya’s field commanders, Khalaf, and a family member were slain in the attack, the group said in a statement.
Khalaf was a local official in the group’s military wing, the Fajr forces, according to a security source in Lebanon who spoke to Reuters. Israel has already been hit by rockets fired by the group.
It was the first time Israel had acknowledged killing a Jama’a Islamiya member in Lebanon, despite the fact that over a dozen members of the group had already been killed in attacks in the country, including ones that targeted Hamas members.
Israeli officials claim that during Hamas’ October onslaught on Israel, 1,200 people died and 253 were held captive. More than 34,000 Palestinians have died as a result of Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip in retaliation.
