Traders in the popular UTC market at Area 10 in the Federal Capital Territory, have protested the demolition of the market’s perimeter fence by the FCT Administration Department of Development Control.
DAILY POST reports that officials of Development Control stormed the market in the early hours of Tuesday and demolished its perimeter fence in preparation to pull down the entire complex.
Godfrey Ojarikre, the chairman of the association of shop owners, explained that the fence of UTC market was demolished contrary to the court order that all parties should maintain the status quo on the case.
“Development Control came and wrote a quit notice on March 30, 2023, and our lawyer wrote to them to remind them that the case is in court. We thought the matter had ended, only for us to come this morning and see that the fence to the complex had been removed,” he said.
DAILY POST learnt that Abuja Investment, a department under FCT Administration, partnered with a developer to modernise the Market in 2021.
