To ensure the success of the population and housing census in 2023, the National Population Commission (NPC) has given working journalists in Yobe State the task of effective reporting before and during the event.
At a one-day state-level capacity-building workshop on effective reporting for journalists in the state on Tuesday, the NPC, through its Federal Commissioner for Yobe State, Mai Aliyu Muhammad, issued the directive.
The workshop, according to the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, is part of a series of programs designed by the Commission to ensure the success of the 2023 census.
He emphasized that journalists must utilize their expertise prior to and during the census because they have a greater stake in its success.
“As we are approaching the actual census, the Commission will require the Media to do more to enlighten the people as this year’s census is different from the previous ones because it will be a digital one,” he said. “This can be done by assisting the commission to raise more awareness among the people about the importance and benefits of the exercise for the development of the state and the country at large.”
He stated, “It will be done with modern equipment of technological advancement in accordance with the United Nations provisions.”
