The Canadian Senate recently held a discussion about Nollywood and the Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy.
The Nigerian music and film industries were evaluated by the Senate of the United States of America.
Particularly applauding Burna Boy’s accomplishment as a traveling artist was Marcel Lebleu, Director General, West and Central African Bureau, Global Affairs Canada.
Being the first African to sell out The Bell Centre in Montreal back-to-back, he praised the Grammy winner for her achievement.
“I don’t know if you know Burna Boy,” Lebleu remarked. He sings Afrobeats music. Three weeks ago, he sold out The Bell Centre twice while he was in Montreal. That comes to almost 35,000 people.
He was in Toronto as well. Although we don’t give it much thought, the culture industry is a significant one. Take Nollywood, for instance.
The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman, Senator Peter Boehm, continued, saying, “I was listening to Burna Boy the other night.”
After the video went viral, Boehm also revealed on his verified X Twitter that he is a major admirer of Burna Boy.
“Being tall, I still like to listen to @burnaboy ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) on my playlist,” he stated in his post.
