The federal government has mandated that applicants under the age of eighteen (18) not be considered for admission to postsecondary educational institutions.
The instruction was given by Education Minister Tahir Mamman on Monday, April 22, while the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was being observed in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.
According to the minister, the 6-3-3-4 education system is consistent with the 18-year standard.
“The minimum age of entry into the university is eighteen, but we have seen students as young as fifteen or sixteen coming in to take the entrance exam,” he stated.
“Parents ought to be urged not to overburden their children. This is mostly being caused by parental pressure.
The candidates are too young to comprehend the purpose of a university education, so we will examine this development.
