The maximum squad size for the 2024 European Championships has been raised from the initial allotment of 23 players to 26, as confirmed by UEFA on Friday.
Due of possible COVID infections, countries were permitted to select up to 26 players for the 2022 World Cup and the postponed Euro 2020 competition. However, the governing body increased the cap after receiving objections from managers.
England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that he had spoken with Ronald Koeman of the Netherlands that larger squad sizes will enable teams to more effectively withstand the possible effects of injuries sustained throughout the campaign.
By June 7th, teams must submit their Euro 2024 squads to UEFA; teams may still choose to choose 23 players.
