This was revealed in a statement by AVM Edward Gabkwet, the NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information.
According to Gabkwet, the air forces have persisted in destroying terrorists’ gear, infrastructure, and mobility, restricting their capacity to randomly strike ground forces and defenseless Nigerians.
He added that on May 3, an air interdiction was approved in the Northeast and carried out over Chinene, a place nestled inside the Mandara Mountain.
Terrorists, he claimed, had been seen gathering in different places, seemingly for a meeting.
He also claimed to have seen seven gun trucks parked beneath trees in the same area.
According to Gabkwet, the aircraft disabled their weaponry and mobility by bombarding the assembly location and tree coverings.
He claimed that the destruction of logistics and the neutralization of multiple terrorists proved the effectiveness of the strikes, as evidenced by the Battle Damage Assessment.
He said that on the same day, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch carried out comparable attacks as a preventative measure against terrorists who were hibernating in Allawa village, which is close to Shiroro town in Niger.
According to a NAF official, the mission was carried out in response to reliable intelligence that showed terrorists had moved into the village after the residents had left in large numbers out of concern for their safety.
He claimed that on May 1, terrorists raided the Central Primary School and set fire to the abandoned Allawa settlement in Shiroro Local Government Area.
After storming Galapai village in the Galadima Kogo District of Shiroro, a second squad of terrorists bearing AK-47/49 rifles made their way to the scene that evening.
As a result, the air component organized a formation of its platforms to assault the place in order to stop further takeover and to chase the terrorists out of it.
Upon reaching the spot, multiple terrorists were identified and neutralized with success.
“Furthermore, the air component carried out air strikes at the location following credible intelligence as well as detailed aerial observation, which confirmed the presence of their cache of arms hidden inside Allawa Forest,” he stated.
Additionally, according to Gabkwet, the NAF destroyed illegal refining installations in the Niger Delta by conducting airstrikes north of Arugbana and Temakiri.
He claimed that by taking this measure, the ability of oil thieves to continuously damage and sabotage oil pipelines was reduced. (NAN).
