The chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Ussa Local Government Council of Taraba State, Abershi Musa, on Wednesday resigned his appointment.
In his letter of resignation to Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, he said: “I write to notify you of my voluntary resignation as the Caretaker chairman of Ussa Local Government Council with effect from today, the 5th of April, 2023.”
Though no reason was given for his action, DAILY POST learnt that his resignation was necessitated by the unabated killings presently going on in his locality.
Apart from the attacks that have led to several deaths and destruction of goods worth millions of naira, DAILY POST recalls that the house of the traditional ruler of the council was earlier this week set ablaze by suspected herdsmen.
A close source to the former chairman who spoke anonymously claimed his resignation “has become necessary following the inability of the state government to end the senseless killings and the destruction of property going on in Ussa.”
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the council area who spoke with DAILY POST also avowed that the inability of the state government to bring to an end the unrest in the council, compelled him to bow out of office.
An associate of the former chairman who spoke with DAILY POST on the condition of anonymity, said: “I must confess to you that my friend is fed up with the whole situation.”
Former Commissioner of Water Resources, Yusuf Akirikwe, who also hailed from Ussa, resigned his appointment a few days to the general elections.
