According to reports, negotiations over Jose Peseiro’s potential comeback to the Super Eagles have taken place between the former coach and Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, John Enoh.
Upon his contract expiring in February, Peseiro resigned from his position, reportedly due to offers from Algeria and other African nations.
Peseiro, a Portuguese tactician, guided the Super Eagles to the second rank in Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, in spite of harsh criticism prior to the competition.
The sports minister and Peseiro’s agents have reportedly spoken, and both are amenable to the notion of the former Venezuelan and Saudi Arabian coach taking a new role. This information is according to Complete Sports Nigeria.
Indeed, discussions on Peseiro’s potential involvement with the sports minister are ongoing.
“The man is willing to come back; let’s just wait and see what transpires in the end.”
The sports minister stated that the Super Eagles needed to appoint a coach within the next two weeks, and the technical committee is thought to have narrowed the field to three candidates.
In a June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, the Super Eagles are slated to play the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Squirrels of Benin Republic.
