Fuji singer Saheed Osupa has joined the chorus of tributes being paid to actor Murphy Afolabi following his untimely passing just after celebrating his 49th birthday.
As previously reported, the Yoruba actor tragically lost his life on Sunday, May 14, due to a fall in his bathroom at his residence in Ikorodu, Lagos.
In an Instagram post, Saheed Osupa expressed his condolences and offered prayers for Murphy Afolabi, hoping that he would find eternal rest.
“Rest in Peace, Murphy Afolabi. May Almighty God grant you eternal rest, and let perpetual light shine upon you. May Almighty God give the family you left behind the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss. Adieu my brother,” the singer wrote.In addition to his tribute message, Saheed Osupa accompanied his Instagram post with one of his songs related to the theme of death.Murphy Afolabi, originally from Osun State, began his journey in the movie industry in 2001 after graduating from Ire Polytechnic in the same state.
On May 5, just days before his tragic passing, the actor shared stunning pictures of himself on Instagram to mark his 49th birthday. In his caption, he expressed his gratitude to God and requested blessings and grace. He also sought strength and courage to continue faithfully serving the divine.“Almighty God, I come to you on this day and ask for your favour. May you grant me wisdom and knowledge to do your will and to live a righteous life.”
The news of Murphy Afolabi’s passing came as a shock to the Yoruba movie industry, especially as it occurred less than 24 hours after the confirmation of actor Saint Obi’s death.Given Murphy’s significant contributions to the industry, his demise deeply affected his colleagues, who expressed their grief and paid heartfelt tributes to him. Prominent figures such as Dayo Amusa, Ibrahim Chatta, Muyiwa Ademola, Wumi Toriola, Daniel Olatunji, and Odunlade Adekola were among those who honored his memory and shared their condolences.
