In response to accusations that he authorized the printing of N684.5 million at the rate of N18.96 billion, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, entered a not guilty plea on Wednesday.
At his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge, Emefiele entered this plea before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court, Abuja.
In the four-count indictment against him, the EFCC said that Emefiele violated the law with the intention of harming the public while carrying out the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s naira swap program.
Additionally, the anti-graft agency charged Emefiele with illegally authorizing the N124.8 billion withdrawal from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
