In relation to the shooting at Ogbomoso that left one person injured, the Oyo State Police Command has announced that it is holding several of its personnel in custody.
Adewale Osifeso, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the development to reporters in Ibadan yesterday.
The State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku is where all police personnel, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, who were engaged in the gunshot incident that resulted in the death of Iyanda Damilola and the injuries of two others, are being detained, according to him.
Following gunshots at a pub in Owode-Ogbomoso’s “Under G” Area, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology saw protests.
A police spokesman stated, “A popular nightclub within the axis received a distress call from operatives of the command’s monitoring unit stationed within Ogbomoso, requesting for immediate intervention and protection from rampaging suspected student cultists who were harassing guests and destroying club property at the time.
“A group of officers headed by one Inspector Rasheed Saheed arrived at the site shortly after the club director made the call.
The fight intensified as shots were allegedly fired from several points, including by the intervening cops who dispersed bystanders, and the accused cultists made conscious attempts to prevent the police from entering the crime scene.
In order to help with their investigations going forward, he continued, the police are awaiting the outcome of the deceased person’s post-mortem.
In the meantime, the university’s registrar, Kayode Ogunleye, said that Iyanda Femi Israel, a Department of Management and Accounting graduate and former student, was shot during the event.
According to him, the victim of the reported shooting was not a student or alumnus of the institution.
