Recently, well-known comedian Afeez Oyeyoro voiced his disapproval of the state of the economy, particularly the price of gas.
In a video posted to his Instagram profile, he bemoaned the current 900 Naira price of a litre of petrol in his neighborhood. He pleaded with Nigerians to help provide for our comfort since things were quickly going out of control.
Remember also that media celebrity Speedy Darlington posted a video of himself on social media at the start of the year?
In the video he uploaded, he is seen filling up his car’s tank at a gas station. He bemoaned the fact that a litre of fuel no longer equated to the same amount as it had in the past.
He continued by speculating that it might be the case that gas stations in Nigeria were banding together to decrease the amount of fuel they sold to individual customers.
Rumors that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has lowered the price of gasoline and diesel at the pump were flatly refuted in March 2024.
Olufemi, the NNPCL spokesperson, affirmed this in a statement. In contrast to the claims that they had lowered the price of gasoline to 600 and the price of diesel to 900, he disclosed that all of the aforementioned claims were untrue.
