The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) may unite, as discussed by Peter Obi, the LP’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023.
In an interview with NoireTV-GlobalBlackTV, Obi also mentioned the potential for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential nominee, to endorse him as a South-East contender in the 2027 presidential election.
“I value his opinions, particularly the part where he said he would back me if the South East were to receive the presidential ticket,” Obi said.
But Obi emphasized that his main concern is for the welfare of Nigeria and its people, not for political gamesmanship or self-serving goals. “It is not the presidency that I am focusing on; it is the development of Nigeria, especially for the underprivileged, because we have so much potential,” he declared.
Obi indicated that he would be open to the PDP and LP merging if the goal was to improve Nigerian administration and capitalize on the country’s enormous potential.
“Count me in if the merger aims to improve Nigerian governance, unlocking opportunities for its betterment,” he said.
Obi explained why he was against coalitions or mergers that were made purely for the purpose of gaining power or winning elections.
“Count me out if the merger is just being done for control or electoral advantage. “I decline to participate in such undertakings,” he proclaimed.
