The bill establishing the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority was signed into law by Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday.
Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Secretary to the State Government Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Head of Service Mrs. Olubunmi Onio, and Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi were among the important authorities present at the ceremony, which took place at the governor’s office in Ibadan.
In his speech, the governor asked the people to work with the government to make the ideal Oyo State a reality. Makinde underlined that the purpose of the bill’s introduction was to close enforcement gaps in the current legislation pertaining to environmental cleanliness, traffic management, and other relevant concerns.
Makinde declared, “I just signed into law the legislation that the House voted to create the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority. We discussed the matter in great detail with the House. They questioned whether the state needed a specific authority to enforce the law.
But in our more than four years in office, we have found that the rules already in place, especially those pertaining to road transport management, traffic laws, and environmental protection, are not adequately enforced. The anti-open grazing law was passed, but it hasn’t been enforced well, in part because law enforcement agencies haven’t cooperated well. However, we are still dedicated to bringing our vision of a peaceful and wealthy state to life.”
This, therefore, serves as the justification for sending the executive measure to the State Assembly.
“I’ve seen a lot of people driving against the flow of traffic, which can lead to fatalities or serious injuries. We’ve seen a number of sad events. Furthermore, our road medians have been turned into dumps, and street dealing has always been a problem.
“By passing this legislation, we’ll make sure that those in charge of regulating this power have the tools necessary to carry it out. In light of this, I’m happy to announce that Justice A.A. Aderemi has been named to lead this authority.”
