President Bola Tinubu has received encouragement from former President Olusegun Obasanjo to extend the Student Loan Scheme’s benefits to students attending private universities.
Nonetheless, Obasanjo expressed skepticism on the scheme’s management without documenting unethical actions.
The former president gave a speech at Bells University’s College of Postgraduate Studies in Ota, Ogun State, during the dedication of the Asiwaju Onafowokan, Coleman Wires and Cables building.
Obasanjo claims: “The Vice-Chancellor has discussed the necessity of adding students attending private universities to the Student Loan Scheme’s beneficiaries list. I implore the government to hear it and remember to include them as well. It is another story entirely, but I seriously doubt that the plan will be implemented without corruption.
The owner of Bell University of Technology, Obasanjo, stated that it would be detrimental to exclude a certain group of individuals from the loan program since it was essential to the wellbeing of the populace and the advancement of society.
This is happening at the same time that Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, the CEO of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, or NELFUND, stated that students attending private colleges would not be eligible for the loan program
