The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti Narcotics Cell apprehended a Nigerian drug smuggler in possession of cocaine valued at around ₹1.25 crore.
According to information provided by an ANC official, the Bandra Unit team, during a patrol in the Andheri area on Monday, observed a Nigerian man behaving suspiciously. Upon stopping and searching him, white powder, identified as cocaine through testing, was discovered.
DCP Prakash Jadhav identified the arrested individual as Onu Bathlomen Sunday (34), revealing that he had intended to sell the drugs to the local youth.
The ANC took him into custody and filed charges under NDPS Act 8(c) and Sections 14, 14-A(b) of the Foreign Nationals Act. The court granted police custody until January 12, and thorough interrogation is underway.
Over the past year, the Anti Narcotics Cell has apprehended 233 drug smugglers, confiscating narcotics exceeding ₹56 crore. Sixteen of these individuals are Nigerians, and two are Tanzanian citizens.
