In the Okpe local government area of Delta State, in the Ometan community, there was an oil tanker fire that resulted in the verified deaths of eight people.
According to information obtained by Rawloaded, the unfortunate tanker from Effurun allegedly lost control while passing another vehicle a short distance from the boundary bridge between Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area on Friday.
Witnesses claim that when the oil tanker was moving, its front section unexpectedly separated from the rear compartment, causing an explosion.
Every structure in the neighborhood near the accident site was demolished.
In addition, other occupants who were confined within the structure perished from burns.
Sheriff Oborevwori, the state governor, visited the area and offered condolences to the relatives of the victims as well as the Ometan community.
Speaking at the scene, the governor said he was not present when the incident happened. He was accompanied by Emomotimi Guwor, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, and the previous chairman of the Okpe local government area.
“When I arrived, I found people who had witnessed the sad event as well as dead bodies.
He said, “It’s a very sad situation, and my condolences go out to the Ometan community and the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.”
According to the Rawloaded, the development occurred just four days after a gas truck explosion in Rivers State left numerous residents dead and damaged property.
