The Super Eight playoff tournament’s new date has been confirmed by the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The original plan was for the event to take place at Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu from May 23 to May 30.
The competition will now take place at the same location from June 7–14, 2024.
The news was made on Sunday during a conversation with the league’s body media by NNL chairman Mr. George Aluo.
According to Aluo, the President Federation Cup round of 32 matches, which are scheduled for that week, made the change in date unavoidable.
The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Bar, Lloyd Ekwerenmadu, were thanked for agreeing to host the tournament, and he pointed out that despite the change in schedule, the necessary arrangements for a successful competition had been made.
“We made the decision to advance the Super 8 because the original date conflicted with the Federation Cup Round of 32 matches, and we felt it would be best to align our calendar with the NFF’s calendar,” Aluo said.
The following teams will compete in the Super Eight playoffs: El-Kanemi Warriors, Nasarawa United, Sporting Supreme, and Sokoto United.
The others are Ikorodu United, Madiba FC, Inter Lagos, and Beyond Limit FC.
The teams who will be promoted to the top league and the overall winner of the second-tier league will be decided by the Super Eight playoff.
