The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has come under fire from Nollywood actor Seun Jimoh for what he sees as unfairly singling out celebrities for special attention in its campaign against Naira abuse.
His comments were in response to rumors that, not long after crossdresser Bobrisky was jailed for a comparable crime, the commission intended to pursue well-known socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, for Naira abuse.
Citing ubiquitous video evidence on the internet, Jimoh highlighted his concern over the selective prosecution of individuals for a crime he feels a big portion of Nigerians are guilty of. This strategy, in his opinion, is unfair.
“Scapegoat approach to cultural reforms is quite sinister and lacks any concern for the mental health of the Nigerian citizens,” the speaker contended.
He posted the following on his Instagram page: “It appears that scapegoats are being chosen to send a message to the entire public. However, is it not unjust that some individuals are being singled out for a crime of which at least 70% of Nigerians are guilty and for which there is abundant online video evidence?
“Why hasn’t anyone who has been captured on camera spraying money since the law’s implementation till now been arrested? Why are they celebrities? Even celebrities are citizens! This dark and callous scapegoat approach to cultural transformations shows no regard for the emotional well-being of Nigerians.
