Not less than ten coaches have won the English Premier League (EPL). However, only two of them did so multiple times before they became 50 years old. Who are these young winners?
The first manager to achieve this feat is José Mourinho. The Portuguese coach moved to Chelsea on July 1, 2004. He led the Blues to win the league in his first season in charge, being 42 years old. The club only lost one game under his charge throughout the term as he led the pack with 95 points. Mourinho added the Carabao Cup to his trophy cabinet in the same season. The following term, the former FC Porto manager was again on top of the league. His Chelsea side won 29 games, drew 4 and lost 5 as they had 91 points. He was only 43 years old. This made him the first U-45 manager to win the EPL back to back.
Pep Guardiola is the second gaffer to win the league multiple times under the age of 50 years. He moved to the Premiership in the summer of 2016. Unlike, Mourinho the former Barcelona manager had to wait till his second season at Manchester City before he could win the league. However, he did it in grand style as he won 32 games and drew 4 to end the season with a record 100 points. He was just 47 years old when he did.
In the 2018/19 season, the Spaniard again led the Citizens to another EPL win. Like in the season before, Manchester City won 32 games. They also drew 2 and lost 4 to end the season with 98 points. In the 2020/21 season, Guardiola again led the Manchester club to another league win. This time, he was just 50 years old. Thus, he became the youngest coach to win three EPL titles.
