A man has died after being injured at Bramley-Moore dock, where the new football stadium for Everton is being built.
The 26-year-old is believed to have been involved in an incident involving heavy machinery, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Police were called to the scene at around 1pm, and the man was taken to Aintree Hospital where he was later declared dead.
Stadium contractor Laing O’Rourke confirmed he was on one of the company’s teams and had been carrying out work for a sub-contractor when he was injured.
In a social media post, Merseyside Police said: ‘We can confirm that a man has died after an incident at Bramley Moore Dock this afternoon.
‘At around 1pm it was reported that a man, aged 26, had been injured.
‘He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been told and an investigation is underway.’
Everton wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘Everyone at Everton Football Club is heartbroken by the news a male worker has died following an incident at the Everton Stadium site at Bramley-Moore Dock.
‘The thoughts and condolences of everyone connected with Everton are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this unimaginably sad time.’
Officials from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are currently making inquiries on site.
Everton FC plan to move into the new stadium on the banks of the Mersey late next year, when they will leave their current home of Goodison Park.
