Last night, Lil Nas X attended the 2023 Met Gala and broke one of its most infamous laws.
Of course, I’m referring to the alleged “no selfies” rule that Anna Wintour instituted in 2015. It probably applies to social media in general as well.
It’s unclear why the rule is in place, but a few possible explanations include: 1) restricting the amount of the exclusive event that is accessible to the general public, 2) making sure that its most prominent attendees aren’t surrounded for photos, or 3) encouraging people to actually enjoy the event, man.
Naturally, it is a guideline that is frequently disregarded — Kylie Jenner’s 2017 toilet selfie comes to mind. Hell, I’m sure Lil Nas X wasn’t the only person to post a selfie last night, but it is worth talking about because he is amazing (and also posted a lot).
