Seun Kuti, one of the sons of Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti, asserts that he would prefer being incarcerated rather than engaging in a mealtime discourse with politicians. This declaration was made by Seun Kuti on his social media platform.
Expressing his sentiments through his Instagram stories, he stated, “Being placed on the cold, dirty ground amidst fellow inmates is a more favorable situation than finding oneself within the abode of the devil alongside politicians.” He wrote these words in pidgin.
Following the singer’s release on bail, which occurred on Tuesday evening, this recent development has unfolded. The artist had presented himself at the Lagos Police Command headquarters following an arrest order issued by the Inspector-General of Police due to his altercation with a police officer in Lagos.
Consequently, he was held in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following a remand order issued by a magistrate’s court in Lagos.
The authorities had endeavored to obtain a warrant allowing them to prolong his detention for 21 days while their investigation reached its conclusion.
However, the court instructed the police to hold Kuti for an additional 48 hours and subsequently grant him bail.
At present, he is engaged in a tour across Europe, which has raised apprehensions regarding the possibility of him evading his legal obligations by breaching his bail conditions. Nonetheless, his attorney has provided reassurance that Seun will be present in court for the trial.
