An attack on the four stadiums hosting the first match of the Champions League quarterfinals has been confirmed by the Al Azaim Foundation, a media outlet affiliated with the Islamic State (Daesh, ISIS).
The threat was issued soon after the ISIS-affiliated media site Sarh al-Khilafah revealed their intention to launch an attack on spectators attending the Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund game at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
The Champions League matches are slated to happen on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Emirates Stadium, Parc des Princes, Santiago Bernabeu, and Metropolitan.
The Spanish government has reportedly implemented security measures for this week’s Champions League doubleheader, according to AS.
More than 3,000 security personnel are reportedly assigned to the two Spanish matches—Real Madrid vs. Manchester City and Atletico vs. Borussia Dortmund.
The last attack by the Islamic State occurred on March 22 at Moscow, Russia’s Crocus City arena, a sizable performance arena.
