Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that Rafah is necessary for his nation to achieve “total victory” over Hamas.
There are reportedly 1.4 million Palestinians living in the crowded metropolis of Rafah.
The majority of Rafah’s citizens were forcibly relocated from Gaza and are currently being housed in claustrophobic homes, crammed U.N. shelters, or overcrowded tent camps.
In the meantime, Netanyahu is highlighting the conflict’s primary purpose of neutralizing Hamas’ military capabilities.
Rafah is reportedly the last substantial bastion of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli military sources. Previous operations have mostly destroyed and targeted the militant group’s infrastructure.
Despite these attempts, Hamas has been able to reorganize in certain locations and is still capable of attacking, even in the northern part of Gaza, which was the offensive’s original target.
