Yul Edochie, a former presidential candidate and Nollywood actor, has addressed critics who questioned his response to his colleague Junior Pope’s passing.
Yul Edochie, as reported by Kemi Filani, came under fire for honoring TC Okafor, a survivor of the Anam River disaster that resulted in Junior Pope’s death. Yul praised Okafor for enduring the trauma and wished him well on his Instagram page.
Some criticized him in the comment section for not publicly expressing their condolences for Junior Pope, citing reports of alleged personal issues between Junior Pope and another person. Yul sent a statement on social media in response to the hate and death wishes, stressing the value of having a pure heart and not wanting harm to come to others.
“Whoever wishes you evil will be ashamed as long as your heart is pure and you do not wish evil upon other people.” Amen.
Junior Pope chastised Yul Edochie for his second marriage and his claim to be a proud polygamist, highlighting the conventional belief that a man and a wife make the perfect couple.
Unlike Yul Edochie, a number of Nollywood celebrities publicly lamented the gifted actor’s passing. Actress Ini Edo attacked Adanma Luke, pointing out how the unjust structure of the industry has hurt them. She called for much-needed structure and regulation in the industry to safeguard the safety of entire productions, lamenting the actor’s passing as a sacrifice.
Ruth Kadiri thanked the people who helped save Junior Pope’s life, including her junior coworker Regina Daniels, Regina’s mother Rita Daniels, AGN President Emeka Rollas, and others.
Destiny Etiko prayed for God’s wrath to fall on those who disseminated misleading information about Junior Pope to the public.
Famous Nigerian comedian Sabinus, also referred to as Mr. Funny, posted a video of his most recent exchange with the actor. He sobbed bitterly, regretting Pope’s passing and the unfinished business they had between them.
