On Tuesday, the Lagos State administration made hints that it has started the process of bringing in roughly 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas, or CNG, buses by the end of 2024.
This was revealed by Transportation Commissioner Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi at the 2024 ministerial briefing, which was held in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, and covered the ministry’s operations under Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Osiyemi added that by the end of June 2024, the state administration plans to introduce roughly 231 electric vehicles.
Osiyemi claims that the state government has already begun negotiations with a private company to purchase 1,000 CNG buses, which will be delivered in two phases and go into service by the end of 2024.
He clarified that the action was a component of the Federal Government’s attempts to lessen the impact on the locals of the loss of fuel subsidies.
“In addition, we intend to add roughly 231 electric vehicles to our fleet in addition to the current diesel and gasoline vehicles,” Osiyemi said.
The Commissioner went on to say that the initiative’s goal was to provide residents and Nigerians in general with energy that was more affordable, safer, and environmentally friendly.
