Daniel Monday Akpan, a 14-year-old gospel performer better known by his stage name Great Daniel, has disclosed how a manager from his previous record company, EeZee Concept, spanked him four times for speaking in tongues on stage.
Great On his Facebook page, Daniel recently made the announcement that he was leaving the record company without giving a reason.
The musician from Akwa Ibom said in an exclusive interview with VANGUARD that the record label’s harsh behavior caused him to break up with them.
“I went for a program at Abia state, I spoke in tongues on stage, and when we got to our hotel room, he [vice-president of the record label] was asking me why I spoke in tongues on stage,” the speaker claimed. He yell at me. I was attempting to explain to him that it wasn’t my fault since I had been guided by the Holy Spirit when he gave me the first, second, third, and fourth slaps. I immediately began to cry because my parents weren’t there because they were in Lagos State. I returned to Lagos State since I had no one.
He further disclosed that as a result of the controversy, the record company that had been paying for his schooling cut him off from it and hired a tutor to teach him at home only three of the nine topics he was required to take.
In his own words, “I dropped out of school in my first term of SS2, and I sat at home for four months while my peers were in school learning. Due to security concerns, they [the record company] have just prevented me from coming to school and are going to send a teacher to take me home instead.
Daniel continued by saying that he was confident God would use him, especially given that he was about to start an independent music career.
