Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are planning to produce a Netflix movie after buying the rights to a multi-million-pound novel.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex bought the rights to the romantic novel Meet Me At The Lake by Carley Fortune.
The purchase is estimated to have cost £3million but could provide a springboard for the couple to rebuild in Hollywood.
The production will mark their first off-camera project together. It could be a make-or-break moment for the Sussexes post-Megxit.
Meet Me At The Lake sold 37,000 copies in its first week alone and focuses on two people who kindle a romance with one another in their 30s.
It also seemed to relate somewhat to Prince Harry as it described the trauma faced by a character who lost a parent in a car crash as a child.
Drug and alcohol use, topics covered by the Duke in his memoir Spare, also appear in the novel.
An insider told The Sun: “The themes of the book gripped the couple and it was chosen for their first adaptation with Netflix.”
Hollywood is currently witnessing strike action by screenwriters and actors.
The strikes could last for a number of months. However, it could provide the couple with an opportunity to rebuild after Swedish streaming service Spotify parted ways with the duo.
Meghan hosted a series of her Archetype podcast on the platform but it has not been renewed by the streaming service.
Harry is also currently working on a series based around the Paralympic-style Invictus Games. Heart of Invictus is expected to be released on Netflix later this year.
