Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos state, has declared that he agrees with the demands of Nigerian laborers for higher wages.
Sanwo-Olu stated that his administration would keep putting the wellbeing and prosperity of the state’s workforce first.
This was disclosed by Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday while speaking to employees at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos Island, during the May Day celebration.
There is no denying that this year’s Workers Day is being observed amid economic difficulties, which are a result of the challenging but unavoidable actions implemented by the government to rescue the economy and put it on the path of sustainable growth, according to the governor.
“Lives and livelihoods have been impacted by the disruptions brought about by the economic slump. Nevertheless, you have shown incredible bravery, flexibility, and resilience in the face of these difficulties.
“You have been the backbone of our response operations, guaranteeing the continuous provision of vital services and the resilience of our state.
“People First, this year’s theme, is a perfect fit with our administration’s core values, which are centered on putting the welfare of our people first.
We have shown by a number of initiatives, programs, and measures that the welfare and interest of the people come first and will always be the major focus of our actions.
“Our response efforts aim to lessen the effects of these difficult times and provide assistance to both our employees and the general public.
“We have implemented our social intervention initiatives with steadfastness and intentionality, giving vital support to individuals in need all across the state.
“We have positively impacted innumerable lives with everything from subsidized food items through our Ounje Eko and Eko Cares initiatives to incentives on social services.”
“Healthcare programs that guarantee everyone has access to high-quality medical care, transportation assistance, and educational opportunities for our kids are examples of our dedication to building a Lagos where everyone has an equal opportunity to prosper.
“Our commitment to prioritizing people goes beyond words. We support the labor unions and other groups that fight for the welfare and rights of workers.
“Together, we have made great strides toward bettering working conditions and guaranteeing equitable pay and benefits, realizing that the development of our state depends on a robust labor force.
“I want to inspire us to see the value of uniting in solidarity and providing mutual support during these trying times.
Our social intervention programs serve as lifelines for people going through hardship and misfortune, demonstrating this attitude of compassion and cooperation.
As a government, we acknowledge that justice, equality, and fairness in the workplace are essential values.
“Everyone needs to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their gender or origin.
