Brigadier Gen. Olusola Diya, the Bridge Commander in command of 14 Brigade Ohafia, has urged the public to report any soldiers or military personnel abusing any civilian because they have dreadlocks.
At the 33rd edition of the social media seminar, which was hosted in Aba, Abia State, for media practitioners and social media influencers, Diya made this call.
He clarified that owning dreadlocks is not illegal in any way.
Although dreadlock hairstyles are typically linked with internet fraudsters, he claims that military pursuing innocent persons who sport dreadlocks is an infringement on their rights.
The Brigade Commander was answering a query regarding the constitutionality of military personnel’s actions at military checkpoints, where they drag down and torment commuters with dreadlocks.
He noted that since there is no law regulating or prescribing a dress code for citizens, it is improper for military officers stationed at checkpoints to enforce regulations that do not exist.
The commander of the Brigade warned to impose harsh penalties on any military troops who were discovered pestering civilians at checkpoints because they were allegedly wearing dreadlocks.
“Any soldier caught apprehending individuals with dreadlocks will face consequences.” Please get us the soldier’s name and the checkpoint if you witness him acting in such an unprofessional manner, and we’ll take appropriate action, the commander stated.
