The Federal Government has declared the start of a 15-day emergency fuel supply program in reaction to the growing fuel shortage in different areas.
With this action, fuel distribution across the nation will be made easier and supply will be guaranteed.
In addition, the government declared that ships that bring in Premium Motor Spirit will keep coming into port to discharge fuel into different depots. The product will be distributed by being sent from these depots to other filling stations.
The Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria said on Tuesday that eight vessels had delivered 300 million liters of fuel to its members in Apapa and other parts of Lagos this week.
This follows confirmation from Ayo Cardoso, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s South-West Regional Coordinator, who notified our correspondent that approximately 85 million liters of gasoline had been offloaded by Tuesday evening, in addition to the 240 million liters that had been unloaded at various depots on Monday.
Even with Wednesday’s May Day celebration, lines at gas stations stayed long.
In the afternoon, cars backed up at gas stations, leaving roads in Ogun, Lagos, and other places empty. Numerous drivers reported leaving their cars parked until fuel was available.
In addition, the few gas stations that sold fuel were charging prices that customers thought were too high.
