Formerly ousted Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shaibu, believes his recent removal by the state House of Assembly won’t endure.
Shaibu contends that his impeachment was politically motivated, primarily due to the impending September 21 gubernatorial election in the state.
He conveyed this sentiment during a meeting with the acting Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emperor Jaret Tenebe, at his residence in Abuja.
Shaibu asserted, “I can assure you, my chairman, I call you my chairman because you are already my chairman and I think you are also one of the reasons they hurriedly did what they did because they know what it takes for you and me to be together and they thought they could use impeachment to get me to succumb but you know that I won’t succumb.”
“By God’s help, I am confident that the courts will maintain justice, even though I have not yet received the formal notice of my impeachment. I want to reassure you that I will always be here and that my collaboration and dedication will not wane. Now, September 21 is our main concern, and by God’s grace, we shall succeed.”
“I’m here to express solidarity with you because I still recognize you as the deputy governor of Edo State,” he said, assuring Shaibu of his continuing support. I think the court will make up for the Edo State House of Assembly procedures, which were a humiliation to the governor and a departure from democratic standards.”
Tenebe’s remarks, according to the RAWLOADED, follow demonstrations by certain APC members in the Etsako West Local Government Area against Shaibu’s possible return to the party. Hundreds of demonstrators marched through Auchi’s streets, the seat of the local government, voicing worries that his return would not help the party.
