The Super Eagles have named Finidi George, a former midfielder for Nigeria, as their new head coach.
On Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) verified this.
Jose Peseiro’s contract expired at the end of February of this year, and George took over.
The NFF Board authorized George’s nomination on the basis of the Technical and Development Committee’s proposal.
In preference to other applicants, the committee suggested 52-year-old George, a former forward for Real Betis and Ajax Amsterdam.
After the Portuguese strategist left after the Super Eagles’ thrilling run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cote d’Ivoire, Finidi George, who had worked as José Santos Peseiro’s assistant for 20 months, took over as temporary coach.
Last month, George managed two friendly matches in Morocco during his interim position. The squad won 2-1 against Ghana to snap an 18-year losing run, but then lost 0-2 to Mali.
