The public and other interested parties have been informed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that runway 18L/36R is once again available for aircraft operations.
This is stated in a statement that was issued on Tuesday in Lagos by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection.
The runway was previously closed on Tuesday morning owing to an incident involving a Dana Air aircraft, registration number 5N-BKI, that overtook the runway during its landing order, according to Orah.
The public and other interested parties have been informed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) that runway 18L/36R is once again available for aircraft operations.
She claimed that the FAAN emergency response team moved quickly to remove the aircraft from the area and evacuate it.
Comprehensive clearing operations were then carried out to guarantee that there was no Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on the runway that would jeopardize flight safety.
She said that after a comprehensive evaluation of the runway surface by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the FAAN Operations division, it was determined that operations could resume.
In this regard, a suitable Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has also been issued.
We acknowledge that there was a lot of muck in the overshoot area.
“A coordinated endeavor was undertaken to ensure the complete and effective cleaning of the region in order to expedite the restart of operations on Runway 18L/36R.
“FAAN would like to thank all parties involved, including the flying public, our airline partners, and other stakeholders, for their cooperation, understanding, and patience throughout the brief shutdown.
We really regret any inconvenience that this incident may have brought about.
Our first focus continues to be making sure that all of our visitors, employees, and airport operations are safe and secure.
“All users of our airports will experience a safe, secure, and efficient air transportation environment thanks to FAAN’s commitment,” the spokesperson stated.
The authorities were grateful to everyone for their understanding and unwavering support.
