Everton was docked two points on Monday for a second infraction of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League.
Sean Dyche’s club was four points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League rankings prior to this punishment, where they were ranked 15th.
They are still ahead of Luton in 18th place by two points and a position, but they have since dropped to 16th place with 27 points, trailing Brentford.
According to the written justifications provided by the impartial panel in charge of the situation, Everton spent £16.6 million more than their permitted amount, which was a loss of £105 million over three seasons.
Everton has announced that they, together with its attorneys, have begun making arrangements to appeal the Commission’s ruling. Should they move further with the appeal, a decision has to be made by May 24th, which is only five days after the Premier League season ends.
In addition, Everton was docked 10 points in November of last year for incurring larger financial losses than allowed by £19.5 million to the end of the 2021–2022 season. However, after a successful appeal, this punishment was later lowered to six points.
