Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has said “mistakes are part of football” after David De Gea’s error cost his side against West Ham.
De Gea fumbled in Said Benrahma’s shot to gift their hosts what proved to be the winning goal.
The 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium has pulled United back into the race to finish in fourth place.
De Gea’s mistake was the fourth error he has made leading to a goal this campaign.
But Ten Hag leapt to the defence of the Spanish goalkeeper after the game.
He said: “Mistakes are part of football and in this team you have to deal with it and bounce back because it is a team sport.
“Over the season he is the one with the most clean sheets and also we did it as a team. It can happen, it’s football but everybody has to take responsibility.”
