David Raya of Arsenal is now a certain to take home the Golden Glove award in the Premier League.
Elijah Adebayo of Luton scored against Raya’s closest rival, Jordan Pickford, just before this.
In 29 league games this season for Arsenal, Raya has maintained 14 clean sheets while giving up just 23 goals.
To have a chance of taking home the trophy in its entirety, his closest competitor, Everton’s Pickford, needed to stop Luton from scoring at Kenilworth Road.
With three games left before kickoff, Pickford has a record of 12 clean sheets. However, he was unable to stop Adebayo from canceling out Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s opening, so Raya is now the official winner of the 2023–2024 record for most clean sheets.
After signing Raya on loan from Brentford in the summer, Mikel Arteta took a risk by starting the Spaniard in lieu of Aaron Ramsdale, and it has undoubtedly paid off.
Although the 28-year-old goalkeeper has made a few errors, such as giving up a goal to Cristian Romero in the 3-2 victory against Tottenham last weekend, he has shown his value in every aspect and is almost certain to make the transfer to the Emirates permanent.
