Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is fighting for his future at Stamford Bridge.
Gallagher scored on Saturday to help the Blues return to winning ways by beating Bournemouth 3-1, as he has found regular playing time under Chelsea caretaker boss Frank Lampard.
However, it remains uncertain whether Chelsea’s next boss will want to make him a key member of his squad.
The Blues’ owners are looking in the direction of ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager at the end of the season.
Ferdinand is of the opinion that Gallagher is one of several players who still need to prove they should be at the club going forward.
“He’s fighting to stay at the club, I think,” the ex-England defender said on his YouTube channel.
“I think Conor Gallagher and a few others there are fighting for their futures under this new ownership.
“A new manager is coming in, so I think Gallagher still has a lot to do, like the others, to prove he should be there next season,” he said.
