Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi of the Super Eagles could be sent down from the Premier League after Nottingham Forest’s appeal against a four-point deduction was denied on Tuesday.
Following their punishment for violating financial regulations during the 2022–2023 season, the club filed an appeal.
After Everton lost 10 points in November (their points were reduced to six on appeal), Forest became the second premier league team to be punished for PSR violations.
With two games left, Forest’s appeal result has left them in 17th place, only three points above the relegation zone.
Burnley, who are currently in second place, would have been demoted with two points or less remaining in their original sanction; however, the Clarets have persevered and are now five points behind Forest with two games remaining.
The club was charged in January for exceeding their allowed threshold of £61 million for the assessment term ending in 2022–2023 by £34.5 million, in violation of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Over a three-year evaluation period, clubs are typically permitted a maximum loss of £105 million; however, this is lowered by £22 million per season for any seasons during which they are in the Championship.
