Former Aston Villa captain, Gabby Agbonlahor, has urged the leadership of Chelsea, under the guidance of co-owner Todd Boehly, not to renew midfielder Mason Mount’s contract.
Agbonlahor claimed that Mount is not outstanding and he is not doing enough to warrant a new contract from Boehly for him to remain at Chelsea.
Mount has been a player in the news in recent months, with his future at the west London club being a subject of discussion.
The England international has been widely linked with an exit from the Blues and has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
Mount’s contract at Chelsea is set to expire in 2024 and contract talks between him and the club have not progressed well.
It has been reported that Mount is on a £80,000 per week contract at Chelsea currently and wants around £200,000 per week.
“He has scored 27 goals in 129 appearances. He’s not fantastic, is he? He’s not. The stats show that he is not. He’s an okay player, but he is not outstanding,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
“Look at Arsenal. [Martin] Odegaard has got 14 goals this season. Mason Mount has scored 27 in 129 games. He’s not adding enough to the team to warrant a £200,000-a-week new contract. He’s not doing enough to warrant a new contract.”
