Everton successfully maintained their top-flight standing on Friday, capping their appeal against a two-point deduction for breaking expenditure regulations.
After admitting to a second violation of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations (PSR), the Toffees made the decision not to proceed with their planned hearing to challenge the penalty imposed by an independent regulatory body last month.
Everton Football Club has withdrawn its appeal of the Premier League independent commission’s decision to impose a two-point deduction on the club for violating the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules for the accounting period ending in June 2023, according to a statement posted on the club’s official X, formerly Twitter, account.
“This month’s hearing will not go forward, and the club will end the 2023–24 Premier League season with the two-point deduction still in effect.”
The club was already docked six points for the same offenses for the 2021–2022 term when they disregarded PSR over the three-year cycle to 2022–2023; this further penalty was applied as a result.
They were now in 16th position, two points above the relegation zone, and facing immediate relegation to the second division.
But with 11 points separating them from the bottom three and their survival guaranteed, Sean Dyche’s club will be in 15th place with 37 points going into their penultimate match on Saturday against demoted Sheffield United.
