In the United Arab Emirates, heavy rains caused widespread highway flooding and car abandonment in Dubai. Eighteen people died in two different flooding disasters that occurred in Oman, and more people are still unaccounted for. Intense lightning activity and flight disruptions at Dubai International Airport were also caused by the storm.
The UAE, which consists of seven sheikhdoms, closed government buildings and educational institutions in reaction to the storm. While few citizens braved the flooded streets, the majority of inhabitants stayed indoors. Tanker trucks were sent in by the authorities to remove the extra water after initial reports stated that Dubai had received more than thirty millimeters of rain.
Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia all saw significant flooding as a result of the intense rainfall. Regional officials in Oman, where 10 pupils were among the at least 18 fatalities, offered their sympathies for the loss of life.
